One man's commitment to service became a mission to remember sacrifice, create second chances, support those who serve, and prioritize first responder mental health.
Service leaves a legacy.
We exist to make sure that legacy becomes action — supporting first responders and their families, creating opportunities for those who need a second chance, and helping the people who serve our communities carry the weight of that service.
Badge 8158 meant something.
Deputy William H. “Bill” Butler Jr. spent his life showing up for people — as a soldier, deputy, husband, father, brother, friend, and member of his community.
He served the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office for twelve years and was known not only for the badge he wore, but for the way he treated the people around him.
On June 27, 2024, Bill was killed in the line of duty while responding to back up a fellow deputy. The Foundation that carries his name exists to turn the example he left behind into support for others.

8158 was Bill's badge number. It became the name carried forward by the 8158 Podcast: Stories of Sacrifice — and part of the story that ultimately led to this Foundation.
